The Vision

The Barge Build

As part of our long term vision of Floating Voices we are building a barge to travel along Ireland’s waterways. The barge will bring artists and scientists and local communities together for eco educational programmes and artistic projects. We are excited to announce that the blueprint for the barge has now been completed.

We are looking to raise

€340.000

We are seeking both public and private investment to help build the Floating Voices barge. Every euro of the €340,000 fundraising target will go directly towards the construction and delivery of Ireland's first national community floating classroom, bringing this inspiring vision to life.

Barge Design Complete

The Floating Voices zero-carbon barge has been professionally designed by Waterford naval architects and is now ready for construction.

Sharing the Vision

To help bring the project to life, we are creating a short film giving people an opportunity to experience the vision behind Floating Voices and the impact it will have on communities across Ireland.

Funding the Build

We are actively seeking public and private investment to raise the €340,000 needed to build Ireland's first national community floating classroom. Funding applications, including LEADER, are now underway.

Growing the Movement

Every conversation, partnership and supporter brings Floating Voices one step closer to reality. We're continuing to grow a community of people who believe in protecting Ireland's waterways and inspiring environmental action together.

Why It Matters

Our Waterways need us

Ireland's rivers, coastlines and waterways connect our communities, shape our landscapes and tell our stories. As climate change and environmental pressures continue to grow, we believe the greatest solution lies not just in science, but in people and harnessing their creativity.

When communities, artists and scientists come together, local knowledge becomes action, creativity inspires change, and every voice helps protect the waterways we all share.

The Vision

BUILT FOR COMMUNITIES

This isn't a commercial vessel. It is a floating classroom, creative space and community hub that will travel Ireland's waterways. It will bring artists, scientists and local communities to work together on eco-arts and educational programmes

On the Water

As the barge travels Ireland's rivers, coastlines, and waterways, it acts as a visible and moving platform for environmental education, creativity, and climate engagement. Artists, scientists, ecologists, and facilitators travel together, bringing Floating Voices programmes directly into communities that might otherwise never have access to this kind of work.

In Your Community

When the barge arrives and docks, it opens its doors to everyone, free of charge. Visitors can explore video archives, listen to community stories and interviews, view artworks created by previous participants, and engage with environmental learning gathered from programmes delivered across the country.
